A full metronome on its own clock — use it with or without the étude. The étude subscribes to this grid. (Shared component: every At-Etudes app carries this metronome, first block, this look.)

Transport

Chords take the bar's slots in order — e.g. 5/4 split 2+3: first chord 2 beats, next chord 3, new bar. If the metronome is running, Play joins it at the next bar — the click you already hear is your count-in. If it isn't, Play starts it (count-in adds one clicked bar first). Stopping the étude leaves a self-started metronome running; the metronome's Stop stops everything — it owns the clock. What sounds — the voice and each bus's level — lives in the Mixer card beside this one; the click's own level lives in the Metronome card — the metronome owns its sound.

Each slider's speaker icon mutes that voice — the icon is the slider at zero, and a muted chord with bass and click sounding is play-along: you supply the chords.

Centricity

Triads first, meaning added underneath: with a bass, every dot is relabeled relative to the new root — the same shape changes meaning.

Shape & Motion

? pivots, placement, and the badges Pivots: click any scale note on a string of the set — that note and the next two scale notes up the same string become your pivots (dashed rings). Placement decides where the figure's notes live: Grip — one note per string, playable as a chord, anchored to your pivots; Line — notes placed freely along the set, up to three per string, preferring the pivot window, playable in sequence rather than as a chord; Free — the grip chosen by smoothest voice-leading, anchor released. The dashed box simply draws where the figure ended up living — a consequence of the placement, not a setting. Changing set, key or scale carries your pattern and pivots along — same figure, same degrees, new context. Order badges on the sounding notes show each string's position(s) in the pattern.

Save entry files the note with this étude's full configuration
  and clears the pad — the emptied pad is the confirmation, and the entry appears in
  the log beside it; Restore on any row rebuilds that exercise exactly. Saving with
  an empty pad is fine — it captures the étude alone. Export writes one .atchart.md:
  anything still in the pad rides on top as uncommitted scratch, the entries below it
  are committed. Import merges — nothing deleted, duplicates skipped; old exported
  logs and bare étude configs (.json) still open.
